Updated: Jolie Children Start Expat School in Budapest
Just like other expat kids in Hungary, on Monday morning this week Shiloh, Pax and Maddox all attended class in Budapest. Unlike most expat children though the Jolie-Pitt kids had former-SAS bodyguards, as well as police and paparazzi, around them at the start of school. Some local mothers were apparently disappointed that Angelina didn’t bother taking the kids to school herself, Brad wasn’t there either as he was working in the US – all of which sounds like quite a few expat family situations. Read on for more about: ‘Jolie’s Hungarian Neighbourhood’, ‘American, British, French, or Hungarian Homework?’, ‘International Jolie Children’, ‘Angelina Adopts Dog in Budapest’, ‘Her Balkan Love Film’, and ‘Jolie Helps Bosnian Refugees Home’.
While Brad was away filming a base-ball flick called Moneyball, his son was apparently playing American football at his new school in Hungary. His fellow students in Budapest are reported as saying he is “kind and courteous”, which seems like good PR for a kid his age.
While there was a crowd of people curious enough to see them arrive at school here, some local folks may not be pleased with the new kids on the block. UsMagazine.com reported that,
“Parents and teachers have been ordered to sign security agreements stating that they won’t chat to the press. If they disobey, they may be subject to a fine; if the contact with the media continues, their child could even be suspended from the school until further notice.”
Jolie Hungarian Neighbourhood
While local and international tabloids cover this celebrity story in minute detail every day (like digging around for the school lunch menu and sensationally reporting Jolie kids were offered Gypsy Style Pork on Monday), in Budapest’s 2nd district some of her neighbours are apparently unaware the highest paid actress in the world living on their street.
When some of her Hungarian neighbours were asked for their opinion about the Hollywood star living near them a few said they hadn’t even heard of her, or Brad Pitt come to that. Others apparently criticised the choice of street for her rented home, just click here to have look at our gallery of photos of her new villa.
American, British, French, or Hungarian Homework?
We know the location of her luxurious rental villa, and it’s just a few minutes drive from The British International School in Budapest. However talk in the expat community says that French is the language of instruction for the older kids, with the youngsters attending an up-market kindergarten also in Buda.
Gossipcop.com answered the question whether the kids will have to learn Hungarian to do their homework? According to them, “Maddox, Pax, Zahara and Shiloh will be in an English-speaking school”, anyway its fairly sure the answer is ‘nem’ to homework in Hungarian.
People.com reported the older kids are at an “elite French-American school,” with the same source saying, “The school has kindergarten, too, where Zahara and Shiloh will attend.” The correct title is of course the Budapest French School, click here to see a few recent photos of that institution on Máriaremetei út which is totally separate from the American International School of Budapest.
International Jolie Children
While four of Angelina’s children have been seen living here in Budapest, Jolie-Pitt have six children in total: three of their kids are adopted and three are their biological children.
Angelina gave birth to her first child, Shiloh Nouvel, by a scheduled caesarean in Namibia. Two years later her natural daughter was joined by twins, a boy and a girl called Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline. Jolie again gave birth by caesarean section, this time at a hospital in France.
Angelina adopted Maddox Chivan in 2002 when he was seven months old. He was born in Cambodia and first lived in an orphanage in Battambang under the name Rath Vibol. Jolie next adopted a girl called Zahara Marley on 6 July 2005, who was born in January that year and was originally named Tena Adam at an orphanage in Ethiopia. Then in 2007 Angelina adopted a Vietnamese boy called Pax Thien, he was abandoned at birth at a local hospital and started his life in an orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City.
Angelina Adopts Budapest As Home
Here in Hungary, apparently Jolie just adopted a dog, hopefully to the delight of her children. According to a new book out Angelina says, “she is no fan of dogs”. Angelia fans and haters can read all about that at Examiner.com.
Go figure, as they say, we’re not going to go into detail about that since her new family member will not be going to school with other local expat kids, which is why this celeb story is relevant to us, and since she is now one of us settling into expat life in Budapest.
As most of us now know, Jolie is in Hungary as she is using Budapest a key location for her directorial debut about the war in Yugoslavia at the beginning of the 1990s. The Oscar-winning Changeling actress was apparently inspired to shoot the story after visiting refugee camps in Bosnia earlier this year.
Her Balkan Love Film
In a media statement issued through the UNHCR, the United Nations refugee agency, she said the film is a love story about a couple that meets on the eve of the war and how they are driven by those events.
Jolie stressed that the film will not carry any political messages. Although Angelina Jolie will be directing and producing the still-untitled film, it has been reported that she has no plans to star in the film.
Instead she’s seeking out as many local actors as possible, drawn from the different ethnic groups of the former Yugoslavia.
Angelina Helps Refugees Home
The last war in the former Yugoslavia left 100,000 people dead and 2.2 million refugees and displaced persons in Bosnia. One decade and a half later over 100,000 people are still displaced or unable to return to their homes.
Recently while in this region UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Jolie meet with the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina to discuss a number of issues, including the plight of the country’s displaced people. Also recently it was reported that Jolie bought a new mansion in Europe after shooting near that stately manor, which adds to her collection of multi-million dollar homes around the world.
Angelina Jolie might have more money than some underdeveloped countries, but she is supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina raise awareness about helping 117,000 refugees of the country’s civil war back to their own houses and local schools.
